Public Art Commission

Public Art CommissionThe Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Art Commission is a ten-member board appointed by the Winston-Salem City Council and the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. The Commission is a working organization that employs the skills, talents, and networks of its members to create public art throughout Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Members have professional arts backgrounds, grant writing experience, and are community leaders.

Mission Statement

To cultivate innovative, dynamic, and engaging public art that will illuminate the perspectives, relationships, and narratives of our community.

Required Submission Materials

  • Name and Email Address (or phone number if no email address)
  • Artwork Proposal
    • A sketch or drawing that communicates how your proposed artwork would transform a city bus shelter.
  • Past Work Samples
    • Artists may submit up to five (5) images and a brief description of each image, including title and medium.
  • Resume or CV
    • A resume or CV including all relevant education and professional experience, including past commissions (past commissions are not a requirement of this project).
  • References
    • Names and contact information of two professional references. Letters of recommendation are not required.

Submissions may be submitted through Dropbox (preferred submission method), or submitted by email, mail, or hand-delivered (hand-delivered materials will not be returned) to:

The Commission meets the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of the Stuart Municipal Building, 100 E. First Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
