Our Mission

The Piedmont Emergency Animal Response Team is committed to coordinating an effective animal response prior to, during and after emergencies and disasters.

Goals

  • To safely and humanely assist animals, their caretakers and local response agencies and organizations before, during and after emergencies and disasters by utilizing the core principals of the National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command Structure (ICS) that was developed by FEMA.
  • To provide appropriate and required training that supports PE ART’s Mission.
  • To conduct public outreach in order to promote pet and animal preparedness within the community and to recruit PE ART volunteers.

If you have a small animal (a pet) or a larger animal and have needs for assistance in Forsyth County, please contact the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. The shelter is located at 5570 Sturmer Park Cir. Winston-Salem, NC  27105.  The shelter is Monday-Saturday between the hours of 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 to 5:00 pm, closed Sundays and holidays.  The shelter administrative offices can be reached by calling (336) 703-2480 during the hours listed above.  You can also contact the shelter through email at shelter@forsyth.cc.  

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services officers enforce NC State law and Forsyth County Ordinances related to animal welfare, cruelty, neglect and rabies enforcement.  Should you have a complaint regarding a possible law or ordinance violation the Sheriff’s Office can be reached 24/7 by calling (336) 727-2112.  

***All questions concerning surrender of owned or found pets should be directed to the Forsyth County Animal Shelter directly and not the Sheriff’s Office.  Owners/care takers of pets will need to work with shelter staff on scheduling a surrender date/time. Do not call the Sheriff’s Office for the surrender of animals. ***
