The food resources map is an interactive map that identifies various school, grocery store, farmers markets and gardens, food pantry and other sites with available food resources. This map is regularly updated, so check back soon for any changes!

WS/FCS School and Mobile Food Sites - locations where the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is providing breakfast and lunch to students throughout the school year.

COVID-19 Grocery Store Operations - updated COVID-19 details for grocery stores including any changes to operating hours, whether SNAP/WIC are accepted, senior/at-risk shopping opportunities, and curbside or delivery options.

Farmers Markets and Growers - view which local farmers markets are still operating, verify accepted payment methods including SNAP/EBT/food stamps

Why Orange?

Orange is the color for Hunger Action Month during September, and by extension, has become the symbolic color in the fight against hunger and food insecurity. Incorporating this eye-catching color into the name of the city’s campaign will further the goal of raising awareness of this issue within our community.

Campaign Overview

The Think Orange campaign originally encompassed nine major initiatives in conjunction with a number of community partners: 

  1. Expand participation in summer feeding programs.
  2. Explore starting a hot meals after-school program for children.
  3. Add a mid-week farmers market and promote use of SNAP cards at farmers markets.
  4. Expand participation in SNAP program.
  5. Create a food resources web site.
  6. Provide fresh food to H.O.P.E. recipients.
  7. Mayor's "lunch & learn" roundtable with Winston-Salem corporate leadership.
  8. Hold a childhood hunger summit to discuss a coordinated city- and county-wide effort to address the issue of childhood hunger in our community.
  9. Raise community awareness of hunger and food insecurity.

The Think Orange program continues to work on and grow objectives 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9.
