Programs

Adopt-A-Stream

Adopt-A-Stream is a program jointly coordinated with the Stormwater Division of the city. Groups are asked to “adopt” sections of local waterways and clean them three times a year. Supplies will be provided and signs erected with the group’s name.

Adopt-A-Street

In the Adopt-A-Street program, groups "adopt" a stretch of a city street by cleaning it up every 3 months, or four times a year. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful provides supplies, trash pickup, and an "Adopt-A-Street" sign with the group’s or individual’s name. Currently there are over 60 groups with adopted streets.

Adopt-A-Park

In the Adopt-A-Park program, groups "adopt" a park by cleaning it up every 3 months, or four times a year. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful provides supplies, trash pickup, and an "Adopt-A Park" sign with the group’s or individual’s name.

Triad Big Sweep

Big Sweep

The Big Sweep event is the fall stream cleanup. Volunteers help clean up multiple locations across the city that include local waterways, parks, schools and neighborhood sites. This event is held on the first Saturday of October from 9 a.m. until noon.

Clean & Green

This program is conducted each year during Earth week in April. Representatives from Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and the Garden Club Council judge public schools on beautification and environmental education programs. Flags, certificates, and plaques are awarded. Winners are announced at a principals’ meeting.

Community Roots Day

Every October is the annual tree planting project held at a different location in the city each year. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful coordinates this project with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Community Appearance Commission and the Vegetation Management Division of the city. This event is held the third Saturday of October from 9 a.m. until noon.

Flower Bed Program

Every spring Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful partners with the Garden Club Council of Winston-Salem and the Vegetation Management Division of the city to provide free annual plants to neighborhood associations and other groups to plant in right of way beds usually at entrances to their neighborhoods and parks. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful, the city, and the Garden Club Council judge these beds during the summer and provide awards.

Great American Cleanupgreat_american_cleanup_winston-salem

This is the spring cleanup event held in conjunction with Forsyth Creek Week. During the annual event, local roadways, parks, schools, and streams are cleaned up by volunteers. The cleanup beautifies the city and prevents litter from washing into local creeks and streams. This event is held the first Saturday of April from 9 a.m. until noon.

Presentations

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful conducts presentations on litter prevention, recycling and other environmental issues throughout the year in the schools and for other organizations as requested.
