The system will require you to have an email address which will be used to contact you throughout the hiring process and to keep you updated on the status of your application. Job Vacancies

Job vacancies are published weekly and are available by phone at 336-631-6496 and on the NeoGov website. Vacancies are also posted in the Human Resources department and mailed to other local government agencies, local colleges and universities, the Employment Security Commission, and other career placement centers.

Employment Practices

The City of Winston-Salems employment practices are guided by federal, state, and local rules and regulations guaranteeing employment opportunities to all persons without regard to and prohibiting discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, religion, political affiliation or beliefs, national origin or handicap, unless a bona fide occupational qualification exists.

The Application Process

Applications are accepted for current, published vacancies only. All applications must be submitted through the City of Winston-Salem NeoGov portal. Resumes may be attached to your application but will not be accepted in lieu of an application. Applications may be completed from any computer with Internet access. Two kiosk computers are available in the Human Resources department for your convenience. Applications must be fully completed (i.e. dates of employment, salary history, reference names and phone numbers, etc.). Resumes may not be substituted for employment history.

Resumes that are not included as part of the application will not be accepted.

After the application is received in Human Resources, it will be processed in consideration of the position indicated on the Employment application. Applications from "qualified candidates" will be forwarded to the department for review. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the department supervisor. At any time, applicants may track the progress of their application by accessing their NeoGov account.

The Pre-Employment Process

Applicants selected for hire must pass a drug screening test and background check. Some positions may also require a physical examination. If a drug test result is positive, the applicant will be notified in writing by the Human Resources Director of the test result. Job applicants will be denied employment with the city if their drug test is positive. A job applicant who refuses to consent to a drug test will also be denied employment with the city.
