How to Access BCBS Digital ID Card

At the start of a new plan year, it’s especially important for you to present your new health insurance ID card each time you see a provider or fill a prescription. This ensures your claims process just as they should, according to your plan benefits.

With the United States Postal Service experiencing an unprecedented volume due to the pandemic and the holidays, we want to make sure you have access to your policy information, should your ID cards be delayed.

Fortunately, if you don’t have your ID card in-hand, you can view it online in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) member portal, Blue Connect.

  • Members already registered in Blue Connect: Members can log into Blue Connect to view their new 2021 ID card and plan information.
  • Members not registered in Blue Connect: If members don’t yet have a Blue Connect account, they do NOT need an active ID card in hand to register for Blue Connect. Existing members can register using their 2020 subscriber ID. New members who have not yet received a Blue Cross NC ID card can use an alternate registration process to register (shown in the Registration Guide flyer [PDF]).

As a reminder, Blue Connect can help you with more than just a copy of your digital ID card – you can use it to track your claims and deductibles, search for providers, and so much more.

We hope this helps give you peace of mind as we enter a new plan year together.

City Retirees Enrolled in the BCBSNC PPO Plans – 2021 Wellness Requirements Update

Retirees who are currently enrolled in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) PPO plans should have recently received a letter that was mailed the week of 5/17/21 regarding wellness requirements. In the 2021 Plan Year, retirees enrolled in the BCBSNC PPO plans will no longer need to complete wellness requirements to be enrolled in the wellness program.  Effective 1/1/2022, all retirees who enroll in the City’s PPO medical plans will be eligible to have certain maintenance medications with a $0 copay under the City’s value-based pharmacy benefit without having to complete wellness requirements. All retirees enrolled in the PPO plans will pay the same rate for coverage and have access to the wellness benefits. Please see a copy of the recently mailed memo HERE. Additional information will be provided in advance of annual enrollment this fall.

2021 Biometric Screening
