North Central Winston-Salem Area Plan Update

Adopted 2015

The North Central Area Plan Update (PDF) was adopted by the Winston-Salem City Council on April 6, 2015. The City-County Planning Board recommended approval of the plan on February 12, 2015. The plan update will guide future area land use and public investment decisions, including recommendations for:

  • Community facilities
  • Design and appearance
  • Economic development
  • Historic preservation
  • Housing and community development
  • Transportation

Planning Area Boundary

The North Central Planning Area (PDF) encompasses approximately 2,000 acres and is bounded:

  • On the east by US 52
  • On the north by Reynolds Boulevard and Akron Drive
  • On the south by Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Eighth Street, and the Norfolk Southern Railway
  • On the west by the Old Town Country Club

The planning area is in four city council wards. Approximately half of the planning area is in the North Ward, approximately one third is in the Northeast Ward, and the balance is in the East and Northwest Wards.
