North Suburban Area Plan Update

Adopted 2014

The North Suburban Area Plan Update (PDF) has been adopted by the City of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners adopted the plan on May 12, 2014, and the Winston-Salem City Council adopted the plan on April 7, 2014. The City-County Planning Board and the Town of Bethania Board of Commissioners recommended approval of the plan at public hearings on March 13, 2014. The plan update will guide future land use and public investment decisions including recommendations for:

  • Community facilities
  • Design and appearance
  • Economic development
  • Historic preservation
  • Housing and community development
  • Transportation

Planning Area Boundary

The North Suburban Plan Area (PDF) encompasses 14,619 acres (22.9 square miles) and includes portions of Winston-Salem, Bethania, and unincorporated areas under Forsyth County’s zoning and planning jurisdiction.
