[ARCHIVED] Winston-Salem Police Department COVID-19 Preparations

Effective immediately, we are implementing the following steps for the safety and security of our community and department to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We are cancelling all scheduled public facing events at this time until further notice. 

The Police Department will continue to respond to life-saving emergencies, serious crimes in progress, crimes against persons, death investigations and other calls for service. 

All scheduled ride-along or sit-along tours are suspended at this time.  

Evidence Management will only release property to citizens by scheduling an appointment.  Citizens may schedule an appointment by calling Evidence Management at 336-726-7285. Hours are Monday - Friday 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Closed on Holidays and Weekends.

Records Division public counter roll up window will not be open during services to the public. Citizens that respond in person to the Public Safety Center to obtain copies of reports or other information will use the telephone located on the wall to the right of the window to speak with Records personnel. Documents provided to citizens will be slid under the roll up window. Citizens can use the online resources available to obtain accident reports, public copies of incident reports and other online services via website https://www.cityofws.org/2043/Accident-Reports  and https://www.cityofws.org/2055/Police-to-Citizen-P2C .

Forensics Services Unit has temporarily suspended public fingerprinting services.

The following events and programs are temporarily suspended at this time:

Traffic Enforcement Unit Bike Safety classes 

Neighborhood Watch meetings 

Youth and Citizens Police Academy programs

We will continue to monitor the effects of COVID-19 and make decisions based upon this information. An update will be given when these restrictions and cancellations are lifted.
