A draft of the updated plan for improving our transportation system over the coming 25 years is posted online. Five virtual review sessions have been scheduled to allow the public to provide feedback before the plan’s tentative adoption in September.

The draft of the update, called Making Connections 2045, is posted at www.WSMTPupdate.com/get-involved.htm. The plan identifies transportation priorities through the year 2045 for all forms of transportation, including cars, trucks, rail, public transit and aviation, and for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. It covers Winston-Salem and Forsyth County and parts of Davie, Davidson and Stokes counties.

Also posted is an interactive map that shows the projects included in the draft.

Members of the public can learn more about the draft recommendations and provide feedback during a series of virtual public review sessions to be held in late August and early September.

Virtual sessions on the improvements for streets and highways will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m.; Thursday, Aug. 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 10 to 11 a.m.

A virtual review session on bicycle and pedestrian improvements will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. A virtual review session on transit improvements will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Those who cannot participate in a virtual session can review the draft plan and submit questions online through Sept. 16 at www.WSMTPupdate.com. Public comments can also be made during the regularly-scheduled Winston-Salem Urban Area MPO Transportation Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4:15 p.m. The committee is scheduled to vote on adopting the plan during its Sept. 17 meeting. Additional information about the meeting will be posted under the Transportation Planning link at CityofWS.org/DOT.
