Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and the Garden Club Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County have announced the winners of the 2020 Annual Flower Bed Program, which beautifies the city through the efforts of volunteers who plant and maintain flower beds in public areas.

The winners in the Large Bed category are:

  • 1st Place:  Full Sun Part Shade Garden Club, bed at Westview Circle.
  • 2nd Place: Gillian Thomas, bed at Mountain View Road.
  • 3rd Place: Ryan Summerford, bed at Cherokee Circle.
  • Honorable Mentions: Julie Bell, bed at Woodberry Drive; Stephanie Kennedy, bed at Monticello Drive.

Winners in the Small Bed category are:

  • 1st Place: Ruby Rodney, bed at Ivy Arms.
  • 2nd Place: Jennifer Trent, bed at Hope Valley entrance.
  • 3rd Place: Nancy Osborn, bed at Stratford and Buena Vista.
  • Honorable Mentions: Lance Carden, bed at Hospice Lane; Denise Dastous, bed at Pfafftown Post Office; Scott Walker, beds at Glenn Landing Drive.

This year 27 groups participated in the program and maintained 38 flower beds. Under the program, the city supplies annual flowers to the groups which agree to plant them in beds in public areas that they maintain over the spring and summer. The city helps water the beds and provides mulch. Every year representatives from KWSB and the council inspect the beds during the course of the summer and recognize the best-maintained beds.
