Police Chief Catrina Thompson announced today the promotion of 8 police officers and one non-sworn employee, including the promotion of Lieutenant Edward Branshaw to captain. A promotion ceremony will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, and will be livestreamed over the city’s Facebook page (@cityofwinstonsalem) to allow family members and friends to participate virtually.

Branshaw has served 21 years in the Police Department. During his career he has served in the Patrol Division, the Happy Hill Gardens Foot Patrol, the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, the Training Division, the Street Crimes Unit and the Special Operations Division. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Carolina University and is an Air Force veteran. With his promotion Branshaw will serve as the District Two commander in the Field Services Bureau.

Also promoted are:

  • To lieutenant: Sergeants Jason T. Collins and Michelle S. Lovejoy.
  • To sergeant: Corporals Victoria A. Arndt, Ryan M. Hagan, Jeremy T. Henry, Seth A. Reynolds and Liam T. Whelan
  • To communications squad supervisor: Senior Public Safety Communications Operator Whitney L. Humphries
