[ARCHIVED] Winston-Salem Fairgrounds To Host ACCHL D2 & D3 Championships

The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex will once again host the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Championships, March 19-21, 2021. This year’s event will include schools from both Division 2 and Division 3 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Division 2 teams returning from last season’s tournament include defending champion N.C. State, plus Virginia Tech and Elon University, which is making its Division 2 championship debut in Winston-Salem. They will be joined by six teams competing in the Division 3:  East Carolina, the University of Florida, the University of Tennessee, Coastal Carolina University, High Point University, and Liberty University. The ACCHL Championships will also include the women’s championship game on Saturday, when Virginia Tech takes on N.C. State at 3 p.m.

The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds has worked with the ACCHL and city staff to create guidelines on the safest way to host the tournament. There will be a limit of 250 spectators for each game, assigned to socially distanced seats within the Annex. All spectators will be required to wear masks while in the Annex and must complete a health and safety screening before entering. Fans must leave following the competition of their assigned game.

The tournament will feature ten games over three days. The game schedule for Friday, March 19, is: 11 a.m., High Point vs. Eastern Carolina; 2 p.m., Florida vs. Liberty; 5 p.m., Elon vs. Va. Tech; 8 p.m., Tennessee vs. Coastal Carolina. Doors will open 30 minutes before each game.

On Saturday, the women’s championship will be played at 3 p.m.  Second-round games for the men’s teams will be played at 12:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.  The Division 2 final will be played on Sunday at 4 p.m., followed by the Division 3 final at 7 p.m.

Admission is $15 per game. Tickets can be purchased at the Fairgrounds Annex Box Office or in advance at www.wsfairgrounds.com.

The ACCHL is committed to the highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship as well as an understanding of the principle that intercollegiate athletics enhances the sense of community and strengthening the identity of our universities.  More information can be found at www.acchockey.com
