On-Street Parking Enforcement Back in Effect

As of Oct. 5 the city resumed enforcing on-street parking limits downtown. Parking meters or pay stations must be used if present, and time limits for both metered and unmetered spaces will be enforced. Parking tickets will be issued for violations. The city ceased parking enforcement operations last April as part of a broad suspension of non-essential city services to protect city employees and their families during the pandemic.

Public Safety Agencies Holding Drive-Through “Trunk or Treat” at Fairgrounds Annex

Public safety agencies in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are teaming up to hold a free, drive-through Halloween “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Fairgrounds Annex parking lot.  From 2:30 to 5 p.m. caregivers are urged to load their kids in their vehicle and drive by a variety of decorated public safety vehicles to get candy. Kids are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes.

Leaf Truck

Leaf Collection Begins Nov. 2

City crews will start collecting leaves on Monday, Nov. 2, in the southwest quadrant of the city (quadrant 2), which is the area south of U.S. 421 and west of U.S. 52. Collection will proceed clockwise by quadrant and continue until the leaf trucks have made three passes through each neighborhood.

Once leaf collection begins, citizens can go to CityofWS.org/LeafRoutes to enter their address for an estimate of when the leaf trucks will be in their neighborhood, and track the progress of leaf collection. Estimated collection dates may be revised frequently, based on weather conditions, equipment problems and the volume of leaves placed out for collection.

African-American Heritage Initiative Logo

African American Heritage Initiative Accepting Submissions

The city’s African American Heritage Initiative has created an online archive to capture the memories and recollections of African Americans who lived in Winston-Salem through the years of segregation and the civil rights movement and is inviting city residents to contribute to it. The archive will accept anything that can be submitted electronically, including photos, documents, written recollections, oral histories or any other item of historical interest that can be submitted electronically. An online submission form and submission instructions are posted at CityofWS.org/AAHI. READ MORE

Public Art at Bus Shelter

Public Art Installed in Bus Shelters

Images of 12 works of original art, selected by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Art Commission for the Artistic Bus Shelter Program, have been installed at Winston-Salem Transit Authority bus stops throughout Winston-Salem. The commission announced the project earlier this year with the goal of enhancing “the interest and aesthetic appeal of the shelters and the riders' experience.” The commission received 58 submissions. The 12 art works selected by the commission include works by professional and amateur artists. More information about the artists, images of their works, and a map showing the bus shelters selected for installations is posted at CityofWS.org/PublicArt.
