COVID-19 Mortgage, Rent, and Utilities Assistance Available

Low-income city residents who are behind on their mortgage, rent or utilities because of the pandemic may be eligible for financial assistance under two federally funded programs: Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) for renters behind on rent or utilities payments; Rent, Utilities and Mortgage Assistance (RUMA) program assists renters as well as homeowners behind on mortgage or utilities payments.
 
The programs are open to anyone in Forsyth County who has been economically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and has a household income 80 percent or less of area median income, which varies by household size and is $53,400 for a family of four. Other eligibility criteria and application information can be found at CityofWS.org/RUMA or Forsyth.cc/ERAP.

Erosion Prompts Closure of Old Salisbury Road

The portion of Old Salisbury Road between Brewer Road and Gyro Drive has been closed to through traffic until further notice due to an increase in erosion along the side of the road that is undermining the roadbed. This portion of the road will remain closed until repairs can be designed and completed. Detours are posted.

Draft Pedestrian Plan Posted for Review

Transportation planners have posted the draft of a new masterplan for new sidewalks and other pedestrian improvements in Winston-Salem and want residents to review it and give them feedback. The draft plan, along with a place to provide comments, is posted at Winston-SalemWalks.com. The plan, titled “Walkable Winston-Salem,” identifies an optimal network of sidewalks and other walkways in Winston-Salem, identifies existing gaps in that network, and ranks by priority new projects to address these gaps.

The Winston-Salem Portrait Project To Be Virtually Unveiled April 10

The Winston-Salem Portrait Project, a new installation of public art commissioned by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Art Commission that comprises a sculpture downtown in Winston Square Park, eight murals throughout the city and a pop-up participant exhibition on view through the summer, will be virtually unveiled at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10. The unveiling can be watched on WSTV Digital Media, on the city’s YouTube channel, on the city website or on the city’s Facebook page.
