Money for Retirement
  • You would earn that rarest of all benefits these days - a State sponsored pension that sends retirees a lifetime monthly check. You would also have an option to leave a loved one your monthly pension benefit after you pass away. You would be eligible for full unreduced benefit any age after 30 years of service with the city. (Early retirement options are available at a reduced rate)
  • As a benefited employee, at no cost to you, the City would contribute 2% of your salary into a 401a retirement account. You elect how the funds are invested and as long as you are vested, you decide how to receive those earnings in retirement. (Except police officers, who have a separate retirement plan)
  • Your retirement payments are in addition to any Social Security benefit you may be eligible for, giving most of our retirees additional income checks every month.
