Why does the city not pre-treat neighborhood streets?: Neighborhoods are not pretreated because it is a resource issue. Salt supplies are reserved to pre-treat major roads, roads leading into critical care facilities (hospitals and dialysis centers, etc.), and secondary roads.

3. Why are some main arteries not cleared as quickly as some other roads?: State-maintained roads are cleared by the state, not city crews.

4. Why do some trucks drive with their plows up?: City crews do not plow state-maintained roads and will drive with their plows up along those roads.

5. Sometimes the city does not put brine on streets before a winter storm. Why is that?: When the forecast calls for the storm to start as rain, pre-applied brine would wash off the roads before frozen precipitation comes down. In these cases, it makes more sense to apply salt to the streets once it starts snowing.
