Woodland Cemetery, the older of the two city cemeteries, is located on a 30-acre plot at the intersection of Reynolds Boulevard and Indiana Avenue on the north side of the city. Its oldest graves date back to the mid-1890s. The cemetery streets are lined with mature oaks and maples.

The open air chapel is often used for committal services. A visitor to the cemetery will notice the simplicity of some single grave markers compared to the ornate grandeur of some monuments marking larger family plots.

The Cemetery Division began a major maintenance program at Woodland in 1997 to address aging and deteriorating monuments and walls within the cemetery. Woodland remains a tranquil, picturesque property located in the shadows of downtown Winston-Salem.
