Wilson S. Weaver II

Biography

Assistant Chief Wilson S. Weaver II is a 34-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department. Weaver, 54, began his career with the Winston-Salem Police Department in 1984 as the honor graduate (highest academic grade point average) of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Class 15.

 Professional Career

During his career he has served in Patrol Division, Professional Standards (Internal Affairs) and Special Operations Division. In his previous assignment, Assistant Chief Weaver was the commander of the Special Operations Division, which consists of the K-9 Unit, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Crisis Negotiations Team, Hazardous Devices Unit (Bomb Squad), Gang Interdiction Unit and Park Rangers.

 Professional Development

Assistant Chief Weaver has obtained the North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer's Advanced Level Professional Certificate and is a certified North Carolina General Law Enforcement Instructor with a specialty certification in Subject Control/Arrest Techniques. He also serves as the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) lead instructor for Anti-Terrorism/Homeland Defense. Assistant Chief Weaver's professional specialty is the response and resolution of high risk incidents. He possesses the ability to lead the WSPD through incidents with large community impact that include all hazards, from ice storms or other weather-related events, to active shooters or other acts of terrorism.

Assistant Chief Weaver has received the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Trilogy Award. The FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award demonstrates Assistant Chief Weaver's commitment to advancing the science and art of law enforcement leadership, as well as promoting the exchange of information to improve law enforcement management practices.

 Education

Assistant Chief Weaver has an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner-Webb University, and a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Appalachian State University.
